📐 Formulas & Wastage Lookup ▼
Tile Calculation
Tiles = Area ÷ TileArea × (1 + WasteFactor/100)
Always round up to whole tiles. Purchase 5-10% extra for future repairs.
Pattern Wastage Guide
| Pattern | Waste | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Straight | 10% | Minimal waste, easiest layout |
| 45° Diagonal | 15% | Corner triangles create waste |
| Herringbone | 20% | Complex cuts at borders |
| Basket Weave | 12% | Moderate waste at edges |
| Running Bond | 10% | Offset pattern, moderate waste |
Blade Life
Diamond: 200-400 sqft (ceramic/porcelain)
Ceramic: 100-200 sqft (ceramic only)
Dry Cut: 50-100 sqft (quick jobs)
Wet Cut: 300-600 sqft (with water cooling)
💡 Pro Tips ▼
- Buy all tiles from the same dye lot — color varies between production runs.
- Dry lay tiles first to plan cuts and minimize waste before cutting.
- Use a wet saw for clean cuts on porcelain and natural stone.
- Mark cut lines with grease pencil, not marker — it wipes off easily.
- Keep 2-3 spare tiles for future repairs — matching later is nearly impossible.
- Account for grout lines — 1/16" to 1/4" spacing affects total tile count.
