⚠️ Pre-Export Checklist

  • Room dimensions verified on-site
  • All openings accounted for (doors, windows, pass-throughs)
  • Ceiling height confirmed (standard 8ft or custom)
  • Fire-rated drywall needed? (check local code for garages/between units)
  • Moisture-resistant board for bathrooms/basements/kitchens
  • Vapor barrier required by code in your climate zone?
  • Corner bead type confirmed (inside/outside/bullnose)
  • Screw type matches stud material (coarse for wood, fine for metal)

How to Estimate Drywall for a Room

Show formulas, finish levels, and worked examples ▼

Formulas

Wall Area= Perimeter × Ceiling Height − Openings

Ceiling Area= Room Length × Room Width

Total Area= Wall Area + Ceiling Area

Sheets Needed= Total Area ÷ Sheet Area (32/36/48 sq ft) × (1 + waste%)

Screws= Total Area ÷ (spacing/12) × stud_count — typically 1 screw per 12" o.c. on each stud

Joint Compound= Total Area × coat_factor ÷ coverage_per_box

Tape= Total Area × tape_factor ÷ coverage_per_roll

Finish Levels (Gypsum Association GA-214)

  • Level 0: No finishing — temporary or non-visible areas
  • Level 1: Tape embedded in compound, no further coating — attic/Plenum spaces
  • Level 2: One coat over tape — utilitarian areas (garage, warehouse)
  • Level 3: Two coats over tape — areas to receive heavy texture or tile
  • Level 4: Three coats over tape — standard residential walls under flat paint
  • Level 5: Skim coat over Level 4 — critical lighting areas, gloss paint, or dark colors

Worked Example

12 ft × 10 ft room, 8 ft ceiling, 2 openings (21 sq ft each), Level 4 finish:

  • Wall perimeter: (12 + 10) × 2 = 44 lin ft
  • Wall area: 44 × 8 − 42 = 310 sq ft
  • Ceiling area: 12 × 10 = 120 sq ft
  • Total area: 310 + 120 = 430 sq ft
  • Sheets (4×8): 430 ÷ 32 × 1.10 = 15 sheets
  • Screws (12" o.c.): 430 ÷ 12 × 4 studs ≈ 516 screws
  • Compound (Level 4, 3 coats): 430 × 1.5 ÷ 300 = 3 boxes
  • Tape: 430 × 0.8 ÷ 400 = 1 roll

Sheet Types Guide

  • 1/2" Standard: Most common for walls in residential construction
  • 5/8" Fire Code (Type X): Required in garages, between dwelling units, and for 1-hour fire ratings
  • Moisture Resistant (Green Board): Use in bathrooms, kitchens, laundry rooms, and basements
  • Soundproof (QuietRock): Reduces sound transmission by up to 90% — ideal for home theaters, studios, shared walls

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Forgetting to subtract door and window openings
  • Not accounting for ceiling — walls only estimate
  • Under-ordering compound — Level 4/5 requires significantly more
  • Buying exact number without waste — always add 10%
  • Using wrong screw type — coarse for wood, fine for metal studs
  • Skip vapor barrier in cold climates — moisture leads to mold

1

Raummaße Messen

Messen Sie Länge und Höhe jeder Wand getrennt.

2

Öffnungen Markieren

Tragen Sie Breite und Höhe jedes Fensters und Türs ein.

3

Plattengröße Wählen

Wählen Sie 4x8, 4x9 oder 4x12 Platten.

4

Oberflächenqualität Wählen

Wählen Sie Stufe 3, 4 oder 5.

5

Decke Einbeziehen oder Ausschließen

Schalten Sie ob die Decke einbezogen ist.

6

Materialliste Überprüfen

Der Rechner gibt Platten, Kleber, Band und Schrauben aus. 10% extra bestellen.

📐 Trockenbau Formeln und Abdeckung

Plattenfläche: Fläche = Länge × Höhe. Platten: Platten = Gesamtfläche / Plattenfläche. Kleber: Stufe 4 benötigt 4,3 lbs pro 100 Quadratfuß. Band: Jede Rolle deckt 75 Fuß Fugen ab. Schrauben: Wände 12 Zoll, Decken 8 Zoll.

⚠️ Häufige Fehler beim Trockenbau

✕

Öffnungen nicht abziehen

✓ Immer Fenster und Türen abziehen.

✕

Nur Kleber für Tape kaufen

✓ Tape verwendet nur 30% des Gesamts.

✕

Falsche Schraubenlänge

✓ Verwenden Sie 1-5/8 Zoll für 1/2 Zoll Trockenbau.

✕

Deckenabstand ignorieren

✓ Decken benötigen 8 Zoll.

✕

Orientierung ignorieren

✓ Horizontal = weniger Fugen.

✕

Kleber für Stufe 5 unterschätzen

✓ Stufe 5 benötigt 33% mehr.

✕

Plattenanzahl abrunden

✓ 16,3 bedeutet 17 bestellen.

💡 Profiberichte für Trockenbau

✓

Horizontal aufhängen wenn möglich

✓

Dünne Schichten auftragen

✓

Zwischen Schichten schleifen

✓

Plattenränder versetzen

✓

1/8 Zoll Abstand unten

✓

Jede Platte beschriften
