🏜Sand Calculator PRO
Bulk tons or 50 lb bags from area and depth — with cost comparison.
Dimension Diagram — updates as you type
One cubic yard covers about 100 sq ft at 3 inches — the same rule as mulch, with weight by sand type.
1 Area & Depth
4 in is typical for paver bedding and play areas. 1 cu yd covers ~80 sq ft at 4 in.
2 Sand Type
Typical dry weights per cubic yard — verify with your supplier, moisture adds weight.

⚠️ Pre-Export Checklist
- Area measured twice, depth probed — not eyeballed
- Sand type matches the job (masonry sand for mortar beds)
- Bulk wins confirmed above ~2 tons
- Delivery access confirmed for the truck
How to Calculate Sand Needed
Show formula and worked example ▼
Formula
Cubic yards= Length (ft) × Width (ft) × Depth (in) ÷ 324 × (1 + waste)
Tons= Cubic yards × tons-per-yard for the sand type (1.3–1.45 typical dry)
50 lb bags= Tons × 2000 ÷ 50, rounded up
Worked Example
20×10 ft at 4 in, 10% waste: 200 × 4 ÷ 324 = 2.47 cu yd→ ×1.1 waste = 2.7, ordered as3.0 yards ≈ 4.2 tonsof concrete sand, or 168 fifty-pound bags.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Ordering exact yards with no waste for spreading loss
- Using fill sand where washed concrete sand is specified
- Buying bags for multi-ton jobs
- Forgetting wet sand weighs much more per yard

Running short mid-project means a second delivery fee; over-ordering means a pile that lives on your driveway for a year. Our free sand calculator converts area and depth into bulk tons, cubic yards, and 50-pound bag counts, plus cost either way — so you can decide up front whether delivery or bags win.
Enter the length and width, the depth, and the sand type (concrete, masonry, play, or fill — each weighs slightly differently per yard). Add your bulk price per ton and bag price. The rule of thumb baked in: one cubic yard covers about 100 square feet at 3 inches deep, and weighs roughly 1.3 to 1.45 tons dry.
📖 यह रेत कैलकुलेटर कैसे चलाएं
Step 1: Measure the Area
Measure length times width in feet. For circles, use 3.14 × radius × radius and treat it as an equivalent rectangle.
Step 2: Choose Depth and Type
Use 2 inches for paver bedding, 4 to 6 for play areas, 6-plus for drainage beds. Pick the sand type — weights differ per yard.
Step 3: Compare Bulk vs Bags
Enter both prices. Bulk wins above roughly 2 tons; bags win for top-ups under half a ton.
Step 4: Order
Round bulk orders up — sand compacts and spreads thin at the edges. Confirm delivery access before the truck arrives.
📐 रेत टन भार गणना कैसे होती है
Cubic yards = length (ft) × width (ft) × depth (in) ÷ 324, times 1 plus waste. Tons = cubic yards × tons-per-yard for the sand type (1.3 to 1.45 typical dry). 50 lb bags = tons × 2000 ÷ 50, rounded up. A 20×10 ft area at 4 inches needs 2.47 yards — 2.7 with 10 percent waste, ordered as 3.0 yards or about 4.2 tons of concrete sand.
⚠️ बचने योग्य सामान्य गलतियां
Ordering exact yards
✓ Spreading loss and soft edges eat 5 to 10 percent. Order with waste or plan a second trip.
Wrong sand for the job
✓ Masonry sand suits mortar beds; concrete sand suits pavers and drainage. Fill sand is not graded for finished work.
Buying bags for big jobs
✓ Above 2 tons, bulk delivery is usually far cheaper per ton than fifty-pound bags — plus no bags to haul away.
Ignoring moisture weight
✓ Wet sand weighs much more per yard. Order by volume, but confirm the truck payload limit after rain.
💡 पेशेवर टिप्स
Compact base sand in lifts with a plate compactor for paver beds that do not settle.
Screed paver bedding to exactly 1 inch — thick bedding ruts under load.
Cover stockpiles with a tarp; wind and rain steal fines from uncovered piles.
Order sand and gravel from one supplier to combine delivery fees.
❓ अक्सर पूछे जाने वाले प्रश्न
200 × 4 ÷ 324 = 2.47 cubic yards — 2.7 with 10 percent waste, ordered as 3.0 yards or about 4.2 tons.
Roughly 1.3 to 1.45 tons dry depending on type — concrete sand about 1.4. Wet sand runs heavier.
A yard at 1.4 tons holds 2,800 lb — 56 fifty-pound bags. This calculator rounds every order up.
Bulk is usually far cheaper per ton above 2 tons. Bags make sense for repairs under half a ton.
🏗️ वास्तविक उपयोग
Sand math covers paver bedding, playgrounds, sandboxes, drainage beds, volleyball courts, and mortar mixing. DIYers use the bag count to decide whether the SUV makes one trip or two, while contractors order bulk tons with delivery scheduled around the compactor rental. Spring is prime time — suppliers restock washed grades after winter.
Our free sand calculator converts area and depth into bulk tons, cubic yards, and 50-pound bag counts with cost. Use it for paver bases, sandboxes, play areas, and drainage beds with concrete, masonry, play, and fill sand types. Enter dimensions for an instant bulk-vs-bags comparison.
